I don’t think it’s used incorrectly when you think of it as symbols of Above & Below
Where exactly can I buy coins like the 16€ ones?
Whats the cost of these coins in euro's? How to buy?
There’s nothing, like holding a 90% silver Morgan dollar in your hand!
Solid, palpable, REAL money
Anyone have suggestions for reputable parthian coin dealers?
Good video. It's crazy enough to pay Vaultbox retail for common coins. Paying scalper/flipper prices is even crazier.
👍
I don't think non-round coins would be any good in vending machines. A modern reason to have round ones 😎
That is a lot of compelling, logical arguments and progression. Thank you for rhe history lesson.
Thank you for this very good Video
Есть у меня немного Галлиена и такие и в серебре.Хороший обзор.
Давно собираю Рим и антику.Интересный обзор.
Рельеф монеты, конечно крутой!
1:34 I could easily listen to you talking for an hour about prices you found!
1:09 This must will be sucks for those who watch this video in 4023, when these coins will be twice as old as now and probably will be more expensive.
🤣
Remember until 1983 France had a silver 10 francs coin....
How the mighty have fallen
I love this channel.Great job!
Informative and thanks. Never really thought much about this. Money is an abstraction. At some point the Mythology of King Midas, which is mentioned in the clip. With the BCE Greeks, Mesopotamias, and other intellectual stuff going on in that part of the World. Plane and the fancier sorts of Geometry, had to hold objects in your mind's eye. An abstract pattern, huh?
Whack, youtube unsubscribed me, I just came looking to see if you'd just stopped making videos and turns out I've missed a bunch! Resubscribed and bell clicked, hopefully I don't miss any others, love Classical Numismatics simple as
Beautiful example with old cabinet toning.
That was so helpful as a relative newcomer to the hobby - 6 coins in! My biggest worry is that I’m buying fake. What is, what isn’t? UK based and hoping to go to a coin fair to build knowledge and meet sellers I can trust. Thanks again, very helpful and inspiring
Sure someone else made a list of what the coins realized prices became but here it is again. Lot no #, price in EUR, Depicted, timestamp #27, €2 200, Domitianus 76 CE, 3:32 - 4:49 & 5:59 - 7:01 #29, €8 500, Vitellius 69 CE, 7:01 - 9:40 #31, €16 000, Traianus 112 CE, 10:30 - 12:23 #34, €4 000, Traianus 116 CE, 12:23 - 14:00 #39, €4 400, Hadrianus 125-127 CE, 14:00 - 16:10 #42, €3 800, Antoninus Pius 145-161 CE, 16:10 - 18:05 #51, €800, Theodosius II 402-450 CE, 20:24 - 22:01
This design and reverse our so beautiful and famous that they were posthumously all the way to the 1st century bc!
Beautiful!❤️❤️👊🏼☮️
After smelting you have buttons. Wheen pressed they tend to be round. Just a guess
I guess I would mix up antoninianii covered in silver, where part of the silver is lost, with toned silver..... For instance, you Decius...Could it be simply the silver layer vanishing?
Are these coins we showed you fake?
I only show authentic coins, unless splicitly stated that they are fakes :)
My only Parthian coin is an obol, I think my next purchase may be a Parthian Tetradrachm
Go for a drachm too, they are affordable and very common
Definitely will, theres two i'm looking at but can't decide which, it'll happen eventually lol
Regarding 5:22, the national currency of China is the Yuan. Yuan written in Chinese is 元 which means round. This is because coins were money and coins were typically round in shape.
Very interesting curiosity, thank you very much
Can you share your opinion on luxury brands like bvlgari making ancient coin jewellery and selling them for way way too much money?
Absolutely tasteless
were you on pawn stars?
No I was not :)
Thanks Leo, brilliant 👍
What is the second to last coin. Roman republic cassia?
Well researched and professionally presented. Excellent content and execution, like the ancient artwork and dies of ancient times.
10:40 somebody really wanted to kill that owl

harder to steal bits off them without noticing.
Love the regional diversity of coins in the video! My personal favorite among pre-circular coins are cast bronze dolphin figurines from Olbia(Northern Black Sea Greek polis), circa 5th century BC
Great video, as always
Very interesting thank you
I am an American numismatist with 54 years in the hobby. As such, I like both raw and slabbed coins for different reasons. As for ancients, I am a complete neophyte, but because my father was a Greek immigrant I always harbored a desire to own an Athenian Tetradrachm Owl. I have looked at many over the years at shows and finally found one last year that just knocked my socks off and I simply had to have it. It is a magnificent specimen authenticated and graded by NGC. AU condition. 5/5 strike & 5/5 surfaces. Despite my desire to touch and handle this coin, I did not hesitate to buy it in a slab because it was damned expensive and I lack sufficient expertise to assess Ancient Greek coinage, so the certification had real value for me. I also loved the way the coin is presented. The slab was not beat up and scratched. It has an attractive label with artwork of Ancient Greek ruins and some historical data on the label to inform the viewer about its age, condition, place of origin, denomination and grade. It gives the coin an almost museum-like presentation that I can well appreciate. Having said all of this, I do at times wish I could touch this coin directly, but having held other raw specimens of this same coin in my hands at coin shows I have already sorta “scratched that itch” to touch an Athenian Owl that ancient Greeks once touched, so I don’t really feel like I’m missing out on much with this specimen being in a slab. Also, I can always crack open the slab if I ever change my mind on that issue. However, I doubt that I will because I will most likely pass on this coin to a non-numismatist family member when I die and the coin will be better appreciated, protected, and more meaningful to my family if it remains in the slab. So, I know that most ancients collectors detest the slabs, but they do have their place from time to time. And any future collector who obtains this coin is always free to bust it out of the slab if so inclined.
Thank you for another great video.
History behind round shaped is really awesome. Always love to know more about ancient coins . Thank you very much for your lovely information on different shapes n era on coins . With love from SAM Guwahati, Assam, India 🇮🇳 ❤
Thank you Sam, glad you enjoyed it! 🇮🇳 🇮🇳 🇮🇳
Round to avoid snagging in pockets, purses and better for slot machines!!!
Just bought a Claudius silver denarius with nemisis in the reverse and it was only $400 😅
Another new video. Its like a little present. More info I didn't know and coins I didn't know about. More to add to the endless quest of collecting.
Round = smash coin!!!
Smash!! 💥
I’ve noticed that occasionally early 3rd century AD Roman sestertius of Gordian III, Severus Alexander, and several other emperors in that time range can be squarish, or seem to have 2 opposite almost flat edges. Is there any reason for that?
Leo, I could listen to you read the ingredients off of a cereal box. What a wonderful voice you have.
Great episode! Very interesting 😎
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)
I always considered that a circular shape is probably the easiest to strike.
And as we can see from the video, you would be right! :)
...and not only a name, that name is inscribed in a beautiful jug. A handfull of these are known and could be admired at Louvre (Paris) or in Egypt museum.
